A new research has shown that consumers would rather look for a cheaper home insurance policy than reduce their Sky or cable subscription to make savings.

A study lead by Legal & General revealed that 28% of people in the UK would shop around to reduce their home insurance premium compared with just 14% who said they were willing to cut their Sky or cable television subscription.

Legal & General warned consumers who do look for cheaper home insurance that they need to make sure a new policy provides the amount of cover that they require.

Marketing director at L&G Garry Skelton, said that it is unsurprising homeowners are looking to make savings in the current economic climate.  He added “But we would just add a word of caution to ensure that household insurance customers are careful and do not find themselves with cover that is less than they really need, in return for that cheaper premium.”

The British Insurance Brokers Association said home insurance cover as an “absolute must” and urged homeowners to look elsewhere to reduce their outgoings.
