Recent poll by Lloyds TSB finds under qualified repairmen are damaging homes.

Traders who are under-qualified are causing significant amounts of damage to homes in the UK, jeopardising people’s insurance policies and spoiling their properties, it has been discovered.

A new poll undertaken by Lloyds TSB Insurance for the Times newspaper, states that over 4.6 million inadequate home repair jobs have been carried out within the last year in the UK.

Traders performing substandard work on their properties, one in ten Brits has claimed on their home insurance to correct damage to their roofs and conservatories – a rise of 16 per cent compared to 2008.

It can cost up to£1,250 to rectify the damage and in some cases the main culprits for poor repair work were found to be unregistered plumbers and builders.

The Brits’ most popular home improvement method is redecorating, followed by modifications to gardens, new furniture, carpets and a change of bathroom suite according to the latest Halifax Home Improvement Survey.
